At the base of its beak, it has a showy black caruncle, which gives it its name in other languages. They are large birds of the Anatidae family, inhabiting lakes and ponds and feeding on aquatic plants and small animals. To find food, they submerge their long necks in the water. Once a year, they molt all their plumage to renew their feathers.
