The book Martina's Superpowers aims to be a family resource for reframing adversity or difficult times. It seeks to create the possibility for families to connect with the opportunity to learn from difficulties.
Amidst what we are currently experiencing and after the pandemic, which has not yet fully left us, it is vital to foster learning at the family level. It shows how, despite adversity, we can find and create opportunities to connect with our own virtues, gifts, skills, and the lessons that life itself grants us.
It helps us become familiar with the possibility of growing through resilience, growing as a family by believing that we can overcome the unexpected as a family, through connection, love, teamwork, and perseverance.
To materialize and bring to life terms (powers) such as patience, humility, or tolerance, among others, is a necessary skill to face life and grow from these spaces. Demystifying the idea that bravery can only be found in people with certain physical characteristics (the strong one, for example) is a richness that can be discovered through reading the book. The power of bravery belongs to the smallest or those with physical characteristics different from what we might imagine from stereotyped social constructs.
Both the youngest members of the family and adults can extract and benefit from the message conveyed by its reading. It invites reflection when, in the midst of daily life, we feel a thirst for silence, which sometimes overwhelms us. We feel the need to expand our lines of tolerance in the face of what becomes difficult at work or with household chores.
Martina's Superpowers is a gentle and loving invitation to connect with the extraordinary in adversity.
