What does it feel like to lose a loved one? For a young child, it's like having an empty space in their life. It's in the bottom bunk, where their little brother Matty used to sleep, and also in their brother's chair at dinner. It accompanies them everywhere until one day they decide to explore it thoroughly. Inside that empty space, they confront their grief: the sadness, the anger, and the truth of how much they miss Matty. Their friend waits for them when they come out of the bunk, and when she asks, "Do you want to tell me something about your brother?", they are surprised to discover that talking about Matty comforts them and helps them fill that empty space with good memories.
