For years, the kiosk has been Olga's little home. A monotonous life surrounded by sweets has made her so immense that she can no longer get through the exit. Day after day, she carefully greets all her customers and even knows exactly what each one needs! When Olga closes up, she sometimes feels sad, and she devours travel magazines and daydreams of watching the sunset on a distant beach, far from her kiosk. An unexpected event turns her life upside down and pushes her towards the beginning of a great adventure.

The story of this album, which has been translated into more than seventeen languages, arose from Anete Melece's personal experience when she was working as a creative in an advertising agency. "I thought I wasn't the only one stuck in her comfort zone, and the idea of Olga, a woman literally trapped in her workplace, came to me." Years later, Melece resigned from her position and began a Master's in Animation and Illustration, whose final project was The Kiosk (2013), the short film on which this book is based and which has been awarded more than twenty prizes worldwide.

The author's talent and sensitivity shine through in her colorful and vivid prints, created with mixed media —combining acrylic paint and pencil—, in which the expressiveness of the characters, the composition of the scenes, and the beautiful drawn details stand out.

The Kiosk is a gentle portrait of routine that opens a door to optimism: it tells with grace and freshness a story of overcoming challenges, with which young and old can identify, and which demonstrates that any incident, seemingly hostile, can be the necessary stimulus to discover endless possibilities and fulfill our desires.
