Sarchee is a game of 48 cards inspired by the colocho (curlicue designs) of the traditional Costa Rican oxcart. This game is for 2-3 players and has two ways to play: 1) as a memory game, 2) as a "slap" game, requiring speed and agility.

How to play Sarchee Slap:
For 2 players (ages 10+):
1- Deal all the cards between the 2 players. Each person holds their 24 cards in a single deck, face down in their hand.
2- In each turn, on the count of 3, both players place a card face up on the table at the same time. This continues for all turns until all cards are played.
3-In each turn, you must quickly analyze if both cards match in any of these 3 aspects:
A) Both contain a number
B) Both contain colochos
C) Same background color
A). B). C).
If any of these 3 matches occur, the first player to put their palm on the table takes both cards (they are not incorporated into the original deck, they are simply placed nearby, on the table).
-If the cards do not match in any of these 3 aspects, they are set aside.
-If the 2 cards are exactly the same, the person who first put their palm down takes the pair, and all the separated cards (those that did not match).
-If a person puts their hand on the table incorrectly (i.e., if there was no match), then the other person takes that pair of cards.
This is a game of speed...the faster you play, the more you will train mental agility and concentration!
The winner is whoever has collected the most cards!
For 3 players:
All cards are dealt among the 3 players.
In each turn, only 2 players participate. So:
- Turn 1: Player 1 and Player 2 place one card at a time
- Turn 2: Player 2 and Player 3 place one card at a time
- Turn 3: Player 3 and Player 1 place one card at a time
And so it continues until all cards are gone. The rest of the rules are the same.
How to play memory
2-4 players / Ages: 5+
Place the 48 cards face down. In each turn, each player flips 2 cards. If they are a match, they keep them. If not, they are flipped back. The player with the most pairs wins.
For 2 people: Play with 1 set of numbers from 1 to 12 and 1 set of colochos from 1 to 12. Play memory by finding the pairs: number / with corresponding colocho.
Variation:
For 3 or 4 people: Play with all 48 cards and look for either number-number / colocho-colocho, or number-corresponding colocho.
Extra Use! -flash cards
The cards can be used as "flash cards" to practice the relationship between number and quantity with younger children, to familiarize them with the spelling of numbers in English and Spanish, or for any math practice.
